The Master of Arts (International Relations in Economy and Trade) program, jointly administered by Nankai University, China, and Flinders University, Australia, is a Sino-foreign cooperative educational program with a high reputation for the quality of its academic program, faculty and staff.

The program was approved in 1999 by the Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE) and enrolled its first intake in the following year.

Course aims:

The course is designed to provide a specialized postgraduate program in International Relations for suitably qualified graduates; appropriate professional education for current or prospective employees working in the areas of foreign affairs, defence, international trade and related areas; advanced grounding in the academic debates and research literatures in the field of International Relations and cognate subjects for students who intend to pursue doctoral studies and an academic career.

    The entrance exams are built by faculty members from both Nankai University and Flinders University and are separate from China’s national graduate examinations.

    The program is fully accredited by the MOE, and the MAIRET degree certificates are eligible for authentication by the Ministry’s Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE).

    Students have regular access to seminars and lectures. Nankai University have been holding international seminars during last years. The topics of these seminars include the impact of the financial crisis on the Chinese economy, Sino-Australian economic & trade ties, economic cooperation between China and Australia, and the global economic landscape and the Chinese economy’s development trend in the post-financial-crisis era. Scholars, professionals, and business executives from both home and abroad have shared their rich experiences with the students.

Course Duration and Study Modes
  • Duration of course: two years

  • Location: Nankai University (Balitai campus)

  • Study Mode: part-time

  • Schedule: concentrated timetabling. Class meets once every month, and each class session runs for three days. It usually takes place from Friday to Sunday.

  • Course format:
    1) Flinders topics are delivered by Flinders faculty, supported by class tutors. The topics are assessed in the form of paper. The thesis shall be composed in English.
    2) Nankai topics are taught by Nankai faculty. They are assessed in the form of exams or papers.

Degree and CSCSE authentication

Students who have successfully completed all of the degree requirements will be granted a degree of Master of Arts (International Relations in Economy and Trade) from Flinders University. The degree is accepted for authentication by the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchanges (CSCSE).

Admission
  • Eligibility: The MAIRET program is open to working professionals who have successfully completed an undergraduate course of studies with certain level of English proficiency.

  • Candidates must have experience in management roles.
