Geoffrey J. HEWINGS

Personal Overview:

Geoffrey J.D. Hewings is Professor of Geography and Regional Science, of Economics, of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, United States. He is also the Director of the Regional Economics Applications Laboratory, former president of the Regional Science Association and Honorary Director of Nankai University China REAL.
Much of his research focus is oriented towards modeling of urban, regional and inter-regional economic systems. His publications include 14 books and nearly 200 academic papers in international journals.
In 1989, he created the Regional Economics Applications Laboratory (a joint venture between the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the University of Illinois) which had a significant impact on the scientific community.
In 2003, he won the Walter Isard Award for distinguished scholarly achievements in the field of Regional Science.
The Regional Science Association International created an award, which is called the Geoffrey J.D. Hewings Junior Scholar Award, to reward young scholars who have made outstanding contributions.

Research Interests: Regional economic modeling; Transportation Systems; Urban, Regional and Inter-Regional Economic Systems.
