Nankai's experts and scholars discuss the post-epidemic situation of the development of Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei.

On May 31, a meeting was held at the Social Sciences Innovation Building of the Balitai Campus.The main topic of the meeting was the development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area during the "14th Five-year Plan" and the post-epidemic. The meeting focused on the strategic plans for the development of the Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei area. The attendees exchanged ideas to provide decision-making reference for the central and local governments.

Chen Jun, Vice-president of Nankai University and Zhang Boying, Vice-chairman of the Tianjin Social Sciences Association, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. Experts and young scholars from important institutions as the National Development and Reform Commission, Renmin University, Capital University of Economics and Business, Hebei University of Economics and Business, Hebei University of Technology, and others participated in the event. They discussed the development trend in the last stages of the epidemic.

In his speech, Chen Jun pointed out the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on the world economy and the instability that brought out. Considering the development of the Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei area requires a deep understanding of this new situation and its challenges.


Zhang Boying, on behalf of the Tianjin Social Sciences Association, praised the initiative of the conference. He emphasized the importance of discussing theories and policies for the development of the Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei area during the epidemic.

At the meeting, Xiao Jincheng, Chairman of the China Regional Sciences Association and former Director of the Institute of Land and Resources of the National Development and Reform Commission; Sun Jiuwen, Chairman of the National Economic Geography Research Association and Professor at the School of Applied Economics at the Renmin University, and Liu Binglian, Dean and Professor at the College of Economic and Social Development of Nankai University also delivered speeches. "Working together to narrow the development gap in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Area"; "Urban development status and future trends in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Area," and "Comparison between the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Area" were some of the works discussed in the meeting by the speakers mentioned above.

Jiang Manqi, Professor at the Institute of Urban and Regional Economics (Nankai University), Ye Tanglin, Executive Dean of the College of Economics and Social Development (Capital City University) Bo Wenguang, Vice-dean of the Binhai Development Research Institute (Nankai University), Tian Xuebin, Vice-director of the Bejing-Tianjin-Hebei Development Innovation Center (Hebei University), Zhou Mi, Professor and Researcher at the College of Economic and Social Development (Nankai University) and Zhang Gui, Executive Director and Professor at the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Development Innovation Center (Hebei University) were among the participants at the expert's panel.

All the attendees agreed that the "14th Five-Year Plan" is an important start point for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei development.

The conference was sponsored by the Urban Economics Special Committee of the China Regional Science Association, and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Development Committee of the National Economic Geography Research Association. The event was hosted by the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Development Insitute of Nankai University. The main organizer of the event was the College of Economic and Social Development of Nankai University.
