Our college is also fighting against the epidemic

During the Spring Festival, the outbreak of COVID-19 affected the whole country. The College of Economic and Social development acted quickly and implemented epidemic prevention which included security measures.

Faculty and students carried out a series of anti-epidemic work. Professor Liu Binglian stood on the frontline of the epidemic, taking the lead and serving the staff on duty. He assumed off work duties from January 28, working every single day. Under Professor Liu’s guidance, the staff of our College provided materials such as disinfectant, alcohol, and masks and carried out preventive measures.

Teaching duties were re-coordinated according to the requirements of our university. Our 131 full-time master and doctoral students were notified and the teaching method was changed to online courses. The supervisors verified the location and physical and mental conditions of every student.

Regarding our Nankai-Flinders cooperative program, more than 1200 students assisted classes for the Chinese topics in an online platform. At the same time, thesis counseling is continuing to be conducted by Flinders staff.

The think tank research work has not been affected by the epidemic. Our college continued to promote the establishment of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Cooperative Development Research Institute and the Hainan Research Institute.

Aiming at the impact of the COVID-19 on the economic and social development, faculty our College conducted a series of multidisciplinary studies which included the following:

“Effects of the COVID-19 on China’s Economy: Policy Suggestions”

“Impact of the COVID-19 on Tianjin’s Economy”.

“Effects of the COVI-19 on Hebei’s Economy: Policy Suggestions”.

Some ongoing research work will be submitted to municipal and provincial government agencies in the next future. This work also includes research on the impact of the COVID-19 on service industries, and manufacturing and emerging industries in Tianjin.

Despite the epidemic, our faculty continued to issue research papers. Among them, 2 CSSCI journal papers, 1 national top journal, and 4 SCI / SSCI were published.
