Wang Jing from Group 14 of our MHA program

Wang Jing is not only an excellent worker but also a beautiful woman. She is the director of the Nursing Department in the Shanghai Yangpu District Central Hospital. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, Wang was on the frontline of the fight against the epidemic. She was in charge of many tasks, including the layout of the wards, the supervision of the processes, the patient admission and treatment, and the management of the equipment and drugs. All of it was performed with incredible precision.

Wang was selected as one of the members of the eight batch of medical teams of Shanghai. During her tasks, she barely rested. Wearing the protective masks for hours left marks on her cheeks. Soaking her hands in disinfection products her damp dermatitis.

The 30-person nursing team in Wuhan

Before her departure, Wang Jing formed a team of 30 people, which included specialized nursing staff on ostomy wounds, intravenous treatment, diabetes, psychological care, intensive care, rehabilitation care, and so on. “Since this is a complex situation, we hope our team can provide good care for the patients in Hubei,” said Wang.

Wang Jing’s first patient was a nurse who worked at the Jinyintan Hospital and arrived in Wuhan 30 days ago. Due to the prolonged use of goggles, she had blisters in her forehead. Wang Jing gave her hydrocolloid dressings, and within three days, the blisters were healed. Many nurses had their ears damaged because of the bands of the protective masks.

“There is one nurse who had eczema on her hands for a long time. Bearing the pain for many days led her to more serious eczema which did not let her do her job,” said Wang. Wang gave her a special ointment and powders to reduce the symptoms. Many people consulted her; on the first day, she received three nurses with different symptoms. Allergies and blisters were among the most common.

Wang's questionnaire

Wang answered questions almost 24 hours a day from colleagues who were troubled by rashes, sores, and itching. Wang instructed them to use special powders to protect their skin. Wang created a questionnaire and sent it to the medical workers to have a better understanding of the potential problems that other nurses can have. This questionnaire helped Wang to take better preventive measures and more targeted guidance.
