Tong Linlong is an attending physician in three departments of the Zhengzhou People's Hospital, and part of the fifth batch of support team members of the Hubei Medical Team. This is part of what he wrote in his diary about the fourteenth day of the epidemic.
Today is February 25, I am entering into the cabin today and I would say I’m really happy because another 20 patients are about to be discharged.
After the handover, I sorted out the nucleic acid results and the CT results we got last night. Afterward, I entered the ward and notified every patient who met the discharge criteria/
The patients seem to respond differently to the news. Those who were found negative asked happily when would be the time of their discharge or the next check-up. Unfortunately, those who were found positive questioned the results and wanted to be checked again.
I have mixed emotions because the discharge of patients is always a good thing, but there are still some people who are not happy.
There was a couple, both of them lived in the isolation cabin at the same time. We found that the wife met the discharge standards earlier than her husband and she was discharged today. But she was reluctant to leave the hospital, she wanted to wait for her husband to go to the next isolation point together. Obviously, her petition was denied and she was sent home.
While she was packing up her things, she told her husband: "Try not to eat oily food, your blood lipids are too high and your blood pressure too. I will not be here, so please take your medicines and listen to the doctors".
The oldest discharged patient was an 82-year-old lady. She was born in Henan but she lived in Wuhan for more than 40 years. When I informed her that she would be discharged she was excited like a child. She told me: "Thanks to the careful medical team I feel good and I can finally go home now". Those who are discharged are ready to reunite with their families, while those who are still hospitalized do not even know when they come back home.
The youngest patient was a little girl who is only three years old. This innocent little girl had the most beautiful big black and bright eyes I have seen. Like all girls she cares a lot about beauty, her favorite thing is to take pictures. Whenever someone takes a picture of her, she strikes a pose and smiles at the camera. Every time we do not have an urgent matter, we visit her and play a while.
She likes chocolate the most. Li Weiling, the head nurse gave her all the chocolates she received from her colleagues.
Once on a while a feel a bit sad. I found myself crying: "Come back, girl. This is not the place you should be; you should come back home". But where can she come back?
Her patients are segregated at off-board isolation points. Her grandfather, who spoiled her most, passed away because of the virus. Her grandmother, who was also diagnosed with the virus remained with her in the cabin.
Due to her age, she still does not know the meaning of death. She still dreams to ride on grandpa’s shoulders, not knowing what happened.
Children’s innocence always touches the softest place in our hearts. I listen to her pretty voice: "Cheer up, dear doctors and nurses! Cheer up Wuhan! Cheer up China!". All our efforts and our hard work in Wuhan make sense right now.
