On these difficult days, medical workers across the country are fighting together against the Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV). The work done by the medical staff is remarkable, thousands of fearless doctors and nurses are working in the frontline since the outbreak of the new virus.

On this critical moment of the epidemic, alumni of the Nankai University and Flinders University Master of Hospital Administration from all over the country are also present on the frontline. They are away from their families, sacrificing their time and strength to fight against the clock and the virus and showing us their commitment to their duties.

Xu Hong, 39, is a senior nurse and works in the Department of Orthopedics of the Shanghai Tenth People’s Hospital. She is also a student of the Group 26 of the MHA program of our university. On the New Year’s Eve, she took a decision that could be described as going against the current. After learning about the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus, she signed up for the medical aid team in Hubei.

As a nurse with many years of experience in the Respiratory Therapy Department and Intensive Care units, Xu Hong has carried out many duties in the epidemic area. In addition to serving as the responsible team leader, routine care and treatment, due lack of staff she was also in charge to clean the beds, daily necessities and the communication with doctors outside the ward.

From 7am to 3pm, Xu Hong and her colleagues can hardly take a break. After work, they take off their protective clothing. As a result of many working hours using masks, their faces have marks everywhere. Xu says that as long this helps to overcome the epidemic, all this will worth it.

Fan Fan, another student from Group 26, is 34 years old. He is a head nurse of the Beijing Friendship Hospital (Capital Medical University). Since Fan is one of the few male nurses, he has a lot of work to do. In addition to his routine nursing and treatment tasks, he must do all the “dirty work”. From 3pm to 9pm, after his duty round, Fan Fan returns to the quarantine area. As a result of wearing multiple layers of gloves for a long time and frequent hand washing, a red rash appeared on the back of his hand. He ignored it and started the work for the next day.

According to the preliminary data from the Program Office, there are more than 20 alumni who are working against the virus like Xu Hong and Fan Fan. Regardless of their personal safety, they are working bravely, following the Nankai’s tradition of “knowing China and serving China” as well as the school motto of “dedication to public services, acquisition of all-round capability and aspiration for daily progress”, which perfectly defines medical worker's responsibility.

Donation made by the students of the Master of Arts (International Relations in Economy and Trade)

The Novel Coronavirus has been a concern of all alumni of our school. In addition to the alumni of the MHA program, students of the Master of Arts (International Relations in Economy and Trade) are also actively taking actions.

For the past few days, the students have used the alumni platform and resources to raise supplies for the affected hospitals. They also voluntarily raised donations to the front line.

Students from Xiamen (Group 24) of the MAIRET program raised 40,500 RMB. They donated the money to the “Blue Sky Rescue Team”, hoping that this amount could provide the necessary for the people in the affected areas.

When asked about the donation, the students and the responsible of the Program Office said: “Our alumni are working together, contributing with their strength in the goal to defeat the virus. We hope the epidemic will end soon and the students can return to our campus as soon as possible”.
