On September 17, 30 days before the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Nankai University, a press conference was held. On behalf of Nankai, President Cao Xuetao invited to Nankai’s alumni, professors and cooperation partners from all over the world to participate in this special occasion. During his speech, Professor Cao presented a series of activities that will be held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Nankai University. These activities will take place on September 17th.
Wang Xinsheng, vice president of Nankai University presided the press conference. Shi Gang, deputy director of the Tianjin Municipal Committee, and Li Jing, vice president of Nankai University also attended the conference.
Last January, President Xi Jinping visited Nankai University and praised the achievements made during its history. Xi stated that Nankai has always followed the patriotic road and is setting the future of education in China.
Cao Xuetao said in the early stage that this year will be an important milestone in the history of Nankai and reminded that the attention of the community will be focused on this centennial celebration. Among the series of academic, cultural and alumni activities that will be carried out, one of the most important events will be the Nankai 100-years Forum, a high-end academic activity. So far, nearly 100 world-renowned scholars (including two Nobel Prize winners, one National Science, and Technology Award winner and 56 scholars from Chinese sciences academies) were invited.
President Cao ended his speech saying: “Here, on behalf of the school, I send our invitation to the Nankai people around the world. Welcome back home for this new century”.
The activities for the 100th anniversary include:
· First days of October: 100th Anniversary Exhibition @ Teaching Center of the Balitai Campus.
This exhibition will show the development of Nankai University in a three-dimensional, multi-angle and panoramic view. A batch of books of the 100th Anniversary will be published during these days.
· October 9: Dragon Boat Tournament
The Dragon Boat tournament will be held at the Daguangming Bridge of the Haihe River in Tianjin. More than 300 contestants from 14 universities from four continents will participate in the event.
· During October: “100-years Nankai Forum” and “100-years Cross-science Forum”
Several academic activities will be carried out during October.
· October 15-16: World University Presidents Forum @ Shengshen Building of the Balitai Campus.
Dozens of presidents from universities from home and abroad will attend the forum.
· October 17 (morning): 100th-anniversary ceremony @ Sports Center of the Balitai Campus.
The expected attendance will be around 4,600 people. In this ceremony, we will look back to the history of the past 100 years and the prospects for the future.
· October 17 (evening): Commemorative party @ Sports Center of the Balitai Campus.
Different shows of music, dance, poetry, and painting that will depict these 100 years following the patriotic road of Nankai.
· October 18-20: Tianjin Forum
Presidents of the Global Nankai Alumni Association and guests from different fields will gather to discuss in the following forums:
