On October 25th, the first academic seminar of the Nankai University Urban and Regional Economics forum was hosted at the Social Sciences Innovation Building. The forum was organized by our College and the Institute of Urban and Regional Economics. It aims to strengthen the academic development of economic disciplines at Nankai University and to promote cooperation projects between our university and other organizations.
At the first phase of the seminar, Professor Liu Binglian, Dean of our College gave a report entitled: “China’s reform theories and regional coordinated development”. Professor Liu described the development and the reforms made in the last 40 years. He also analyzed the impact of price reforms, enterprise reforms and the trade opening on regional economic growth. His paper sums up the process of regional coordinated development in the New Era and makes an exhaustive description of the evolution of the regional economic theory in China.
Professor Liu’s speech had an excellent response of teachers and students, who actively participated in the discussion. Professor Jiang Manqi and Associate Researcher Zhou Mi gave a comprehensive comment on the report and suggested teachers and students to continue working on regional economic research. Other teachers who participated in the seminary have exchanged their points of view. After that, Professor Liu concluded the first part of the seminary with a summary of the work done. This two-weeks forum was one of the academic activities of the 100th Anniversary of Nankai University, and it is expected to have more seminars like this in the future.
