Farewell Ceremony Held for the 2025 Graduates of the Institute

On June 19, the Institute of Economics and Social Development at Nankai University held a farewell ceremony for 62 graduating master’s and doctoral students. The event was hosted by Vice Dean Liu Weilin and attended by Dean Liu Binglian, Vice Dean Bai Xuejie, faculty representatives, and graduating students.

Dean Liu Binglian, on behalf of all faculty members, congratulated the graduates on successfully completing their programs. In his parting message titled “Being a Good Person, Doing Good Work, Pursuing Good Scholarship,” he encouraged the graduates to uphold integrity and carry forward Nankai’s motto, “Dedication to Public Interests, Acquisition of All-Round Capability.” He urged them to apply what they have learned to solve real-world problems, stay grounded amid global uncertainties, and maintain the spirit of inquiry. He reminded them to live by the principle “A noble person pursues broad learning and daily self-reflection” and continue striving for academic and professional excellence.

Graduating students then delivered speeches. Master’s graduate representative Teng Yubo reflected on the past three years—sunrises by Matihu Lake, late nights in the Yifu Library, and the dedicated guidance of faculty. He noted that the spirit of Nankai shapes its people, and that graduates will carry this legacy forward in service to society. Doctoral graduate representative Yuan Bo expressed deep gratitude to Nankai, which has supported each student’s academic aspirations. As graduates step into an era of change, they will give back to their country with the power of knowledge. Wherever they go, he said, they will remember their time at Nankai— “Where the heart feels at peace, there lies Nankai.”

Several faculty representatives offered heartfelt messages, urging graduates to stay true to their aspirations, to strive for success, and to also “eat well and live well.” They expressed their hope that one day, graduates would return to give back to their alma mater. Vice Dean Bai Xuejie encouraged the graduates to pursue their own brilliance while embracing harmony and diversity.

The Institute of Economics and Social Development sends its best wishes to all 2025 graduates: may you move forward with confidence and shine brightly in your respective paths. Nankai and the Institute will always remember this summer—and will always look forward to welcoming your return.

Congratulations to all our graduates!
