The Symposium on Industrial Innovation and Chinese-Style Modernization was held at Nankai University.

On August 23, the Symposium on Industrial Innovation and Chinese-Style Modernization was held at Nankai University. More than 30 experts and scholars from institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Shandong University, Beijing Normal University, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Liaoning University, Huaqiao University, Hunan University of Science and Technology, and Nankai University gathered to conduct in-depth discussions on major topics including industrial innovation, the construction of a modern industrial system, the establishment of a unified national market, and pathways to Chinese-style modernization.

Liang Qi, Deputy Party Secretary of Nankai University and Executive Vice Dean of the Institute for the Development of Chinese-Style Modernization, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. The opening session of the symposium was chaired by Professor Bai Xuejie, Vice Dean of the Institute of Economics and Social Development at Nankai University.

In his speech, Liang Qi emphasized that industrial innovation is the core driving force for advancing Chinese-style modernization. He noted that Nankai University has long been committed to cutting-edge research in the field of industrial economics and expressed the hope that the symposium would bring together academic insights to contribute to the construction of a modern industrial system, while promoting theoretical innovation and practical development in industrial economics with Chinese characteristics.

The symposium was chaired by Wang Yanmei, Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Director of the Editorial Department of China Industrial Economics. Gan Chunhui, Executive Vice President of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, focused on the topic of geopolitical competition and the restructuring of global value chains. He analyzed the mechanisms through which changes in the global geopolitical landscape impact industrial and value chains, and proposed that China should build an independent, controllable, safe, and efficient industrial chain system.

Professor Liu Youjin, former Deputy Party Secretary of Hunan University of Science and Technology, delivered a lecture entitled “Overtaking on Curves, Industrial Innovation, and Value Chain Reconstruction: Typical Cases and Lessons.” Using the new energy vehicle industry as an example, he systematically explained the typical pathways and experiences of China’s manufacturing industry in achieving value chain upgrading.

Professor Liu Zhibiao, Dean of the Yangtze Industrial Economics Research Institute at Nanjing University, focused on the construction of a unified national market, and proposed a strategic vision and policy framework for the transition from “unified rules” to “expanded scale.”

Rui Mingjie, National Distinguished Professor at Fudan University, delivered a report entitled “Reflections on Industrial Innovation Efficiency.” He clarified the core connotation and evaluation system of industrial innovation efficiency and put forward forward-looking suggestions for future research.

Professor Yang Huixin, former Dean of the School of Management at Shandong University, explored the integration of manufacturing and services from the perspective of the “two industries.” She analyzed the research challenges, implementation pathways, and policy priorities of promoting high-quality development in manufacturing through service-oriented manufacturing.

Lin Muxi, former Standing Committee member of the Party Committee at Liaoning University, in his report “Using Technological Innovation to Drive the Development of New Quality Productive Forces and the Construction of a Modern Industrial System,” systematically argued the role of technological innovation as the core engine of modern industrial system development.

Professor Guo Kesha, discipline leader at the School of Economics and Finance, Huaqiao University, examined the evolution of the concept of industrial innovation and its mechanism of action in promoting high-quality development.

Professor Qi Yudong, Dean of the School of Economics and Business Administration at Beijing Normal University, focused on balancing technology and governance in artificial intelligence development, and discussed China’s strategic choices in global AI competition.

Professor Zang Xuheng, Director of the Institute of Industrial Economics at Shandong University, interpreted the interactive relationship between consumption upgrading and industrial transformation from the perspective of a century of economic history, providing historical insights for strengthening current economic resilience.

Professor Li Shijie from the School of Economics at Nankai University discussed data factor platform operation and governance innovation and presented pathways for data market development under the framework of Chinese-style modernization.

During the symposium, Professor Liu Binglian, Dean of the Institute of Economics and Social Development; Professor Li Lanbing, Director of the Department of Strategic Development; Professor Liu Weilin, Vice Dean of the Institute of Economics and Social Development; and Professor Du Chuanzhong, Director of the Institute of Industrial Economics, each delivered speeches sharing their research findings.

In her concluding remarks, Professor Pang Ruizhi, Director of the Center for Enterprise Research at Nankai University, noted that the symposium brought together leading minds in the field of industrial economics. She emphasized that the insightful perspectives of the experts provide important theoretical references and practical support for advancing industrial innovation and Chinese-style modernization.

This symposium served as a high-level academic exchange platform in China. Nankai University will continue to leverage its disciplinary strengths in economics, deepen research on industrial innovation and Chinese-style modernization, and provide strong intellectual support for the comprehensive realization of a modern socialist country.
