On December 6, 2025, Professor Sun Chuanwang, Distinguished Professor of Nanqiang at Xiamen University and Distinguished Professor of the Major Talent Program of the Ministry of Education, was invited to visit the "Nankai CESD Academic Lecture Hall" and gave an academic lecture entitled "Carbon Emission Trading System, Industrial Green Transformation and Its Externalities". The lecture was co-hosted by the College of Economic and Social Development and the School of Economics of Nankai University, presided over by Professor Liu Weilin, and teachers and students related to the College of Industrial Economics participated in the exchange.
Professor Sun Chuanwang first started with the background of new quality productive forces and green development, pointing out that the carbon emission trading system is a key market-oriented tool to promote industrial transformation. However, existing studies generally focus on its local effects on pilot areas, and its cross-regional impact on the industrial structure of surrounding non-pilot areas is not clear. The research found that the carbon trading pilot policy has produced a significant negative externality of low-carbonization of the industrial structure on adjacent non-pilot areas, and this effect weakens with the increase of geographical distance. Mechanism analysis shows that industrial layout adjustment and factor allocation distortion are the main transmission paths, while technological innovation can effectively alleviate such negative spillovers. These findings provide important empirical evidence and policy implications for accelerating the construction of a unified national carbon market and promoting global green transformation through institutional coordination. After the lecture, teachers and students on site conducted interactive exchanges with the speaker on issues such as carbon market design, regional coordination mechanisms, and environmental economics.
The "Nankai CESD Academic Lecture Hall" is an academic exchange platform established by our college in 2021, committed to building a high-level dialogue platform that gathers cutting-edge wisdom and stimulates academic innovation. Each lecture invites well-known scholars at home and abroad to conduct in-depth discussions on cutting-edge issues of economic development, open to all teachers and students of the university. This platform not only effectively promotes the linkage and cooperation of academic resources inside and outside the university, but also continuously expands the theoretical vision and research pattern of teachers and students, and significantly enhances the academic leadership and ideological influence of the college in related fields.
