Professor Lu Bo of Dalian University of Technology Delivers Lecture at the CESD Academic Forum

Recently, Professor Lu Bo, Executive Dean of the College of Intelligent Transportation at Dalian University of Technology and a Distinguished Professor under China’s National Major Talent Program, was invited to deliver a lecture as part of the CESD Academic Forum at the College of Economic and Social Development (CESD), Nankai University.

The lecture was chaired by Professor Xiao Jianhua, Director of the Modern Logistics Research Center at Nankai University. Professor Liu Binglian, Dean of the College of Economic and Social Development, attended the event. Faculty members and students from the logistics discipline, including Professor Li Xiang, Deputy Director of the Center, Associate Professor Jiao Zhilun, Associate Professor Wu Xiaofan, and Assistant Professor Yu Hang, also participated in the lecture.

The lecture, titled “The Transformation and Upgrading of Smart Ports and the Shipping Industry in the Digital Economy Era,” focused on emerging trends and research frontiers in port and maritime transportation systems.

Professor Lu’s presentation covered several key topics, including:

  • Accurate forecasting of port logistics demand;

  • Quantification of carbon emissions from global container liner shipping;

  • Port information integration and the development of digital operation platforms;

  • The evolution of maritime transportation networks along the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor in Western China.

Drawing on his extensive research experience, Professor Lu also shared insights on how to identify major research topics from national strategic priorities, publish high-quality academic papers, and produce policy-oriented research outputs for national think tanks.

Following the presentation, faculty members and students engaged in in-depth discussions with Professor Lu on research methodologies, academic publication strategies, and the future development of smart ports and intelligent transportation systems. The event fostered a lively academic atmosphere and provided valuable opportunities for scholarly exchange and collaboration.
