On the morning of May 20, 2026, a delegation led by Hu Yongmei, Deputy Director of the Tianjin Development and Reform Commission (DRC), visited the College of Economic and Social Development (CESD) at Nankai University for research discussions and academic exchange. Other members of the delegation included Dai Taihua, Director of the Secretariat of the Tianjin Financial Affairs Office; Yu Songping, Director of the Comprehensive National Economy Division of the Tianjin Development and Reform Commission; and Liu Fuqiang, President of the Tianjin College of Economic Development Research.
Representing the College of Economic and Social Development were Professor Liu Binglian, Dean of the CESD; Professor Liu Weilin, Vice Dean; Professor Zhang Gui, Secretary-General of the College for Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei Coordinated Development; and Dr. Guo Jiahong, Lecturer at the CESD.
Professor Liu Binglian warmly welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of the College for Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei Coordinated Development. He highlighted the Institute’s efforts in supporting the coordinated development strategy of the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region and promoting Tianjin’s high-quality economic development through policy consultation, field research, think tank development, and the construction of large-scale data platforms.
Professor Liu Weilin then guided the delegation on a tour of the China Regional Economic Applications Laboratoryat Nankai University. During the visit, he introduced the development background, system architecture, and practical application cases of the Regional Industrial Large Model for Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei Coordinated Development, explaining how the platform supports regional economic analysis and policy decision-making.
Deputy Director Hu Yongmei presented an overview of the Tianjin DRC’s recent policy research initiatives, while President Liu Fuqiang introduced the overall development and research activities of the Tianjin Institute of Economic Development Research.
During the discussion session, both sides engaged in in-depth exchanges on several key areas, including:
Policy consultation and advisory services;
Development of data platforms and digital infrastructure;
Large-scale AI model research and development;
Specialized policy research projects;
Cultivation of high-level talent and research teams.
The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen collaboration between government agencies and academic institutions. Both parties expressed their commitment to deepening practical cooperation and jointly contributing to policy innovation, regional development research, and high-quality economic growth in Tianjin and the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region.
